Gear Up To Save Tokyo With New SMT: Apocalypse Trailer

Angels, Demons or Humanity… Which Side Will You Pick In SMT: Apocalypse?

The pseudo-sequel to Shin Megami Tensei IV, SMT: Apocalypse, is inching closer and closer to the long awaited North American release. Japan’s had the game for some time, but now us westerners can also partake in the next entry in the eclectic series. Shin Megami Tensei essentially plays out like a rather grim version of Pokemon, but with a much deeper system for raising monsters. Players can recruit all manners of deities and icons from various cultures, ranging from Norse to Aztec, and  end up doing battle against the forces of “good” or “evil”, although each sides morality is intentionally gray. Players can also typically opt for the traditionally difficult neutral route, in which they take on everybody. It’s a fairly simple plot device on its own, but the sheer depth of the gameplay is the real draw, with SMT: Apocalypse looking to build and refine on SMT IV’s mechanics. Here’s a brief synopsis of the plot, as well as some other key refinements of the upcoming title taken from the press release as well:

SMT: Apocalypse

The plot of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse overlaps with Shin Megami Tensei IV (and features some familiar characters), but no previous experience with the original is required! Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse arrives on Nintendo 3DS systems in the Americas this summer, and will be available physically and digitally for $49.99/CA$64.99. The game features:

  • Divine Intrigue – Choose between peace or anarchy while being a pawn in the gods’ chess game.
  • Combat Partners – Hunting demons is dangerous, so count on some backup! Alongside the standard three demons, players will be able to rely on one of seven partners to help win battles.
  • Oodles of Demons – Be on your guard because Tokyo is infested with a series record 450+ demons to fight, fuse, or recruit.
  • Revamped Demon Fusion – Demons will have affinities for certain skills, so players can better plan the outcome of fusions.
  • Classic SMT Combat – Prospective Hunters will exploit weaknesses, boost attributes, and unlock skill bonuses with the returning Press Turn and Smirking systems.

A new trailer dropped from Atlus detailing more elements of the story, which you can catch below. As always, keep an eye on COGConnected for all the exciting details of SMT: Apocalypse as it nears release!
