Stunning New Battlezone VR Trailer Shows Off Single Player Campaign

Battlezone VR, introduced last year at E3, is a PlayStation VR game that takes the classic Battlezone Atari game and brings it to the 3D world of virtual reality. This week at GDC, Rebellionโ€™s CEO Jason Kingsley revealed a trailer showing the gameโ€™s Single Player Campaign, and damn if it doesnโ€™t look awesome.

In the trailer, gameplay starts in an urban, industrial area somewhat reminiscent of Tron, and then hints at other environments such as arctic snowscapes. We also get a look at what we will see as players โ€“ a first person point of view inside the tankโ€™s cockpit. Kingsley also tried to describe the maps that players can expect in the game.

โ€œAs a player, youโ€™ll experience explosive vehicle tank combat across all these different environments โ€“ and more โ€“ but whatโ€™s most exciting is that once youโ€™ve completed the campaign, your next playthrough will be very different,โ€ said Kingsley. โ€œThe campaign map where you pick missions is structured across a series of interlocking โ€œhexesโ€ (for all those older British readers, think โ€œBlockbusterโ€!) that need to be completed to progress to the finale, and itโ€™s up to you to forge a path through the campaign of your own choosing.โ€

To make for โ€œendless replayability,โ€ Kingsley also said that Battlezone VR will have procedurally-generated elements. โ€œIf you restart the campaign at any time, the hex map is re-generated procedurally, and dozens of environments, levels and mission types are blended together in a different combination,โ€ he said. โ€œSo each hex is now completely different from what it was before.โ€
