Playstation VR Coming in October for $399 ($549.99 CAD)

Today at GDC, Sony superstar Andrew House got on stage and did what Sony has been doing for this whole generation. He dropped the mic. Playstation VR is set to become the mass market standard by massively undercutting the competition from Oculus and HTC. $399 ($549.99 CAD). That’s half of the HTC Vive, and $200 less than Oculus. The real kicker? The only other hardware you’ll need is a PS4. When factoring in the PC muscle needed by its competition, Playstation VR is under half the total cost.

What we still don’t know is what we’ll be playing in our virtual living rooms, exactly. House mentioned some big names including Battlefront, and confirmed that there will be a mode for playing regular games on the VR headset though. The short presentation lasted only 13 minutes, but those minutes might have executives at Oculus and HTC shaking in their virtual boots. Come October 2016, Playstation VR will be coming to market dropping mics left and right.

What do you think? Is the image quality offered by Oculus and Vive enough to justify the price? Or is Playstation VR going to push the market towards the mainstream? Maybe both? We don’t know yet, but we sure as heck want to find out, and E3 is just around the corner (already? Good grief). Stay tuned to COG for more as we hear about it!
