A few weeks ago we reviewed Firewatch and gave the game a rock solid review score. We called it, “a curious experience, and one that has continued to shift my perception of what a game is. In this case, it’s walking through a stunning forest while chatting frankly with a character you’ve never really met. And that was more than enough for me to feel fulfilled. Go on; spend an afternoon with Firewatch. It has a few unsightly spots, but it’s still a tremendous and thought provoking experience for anyone who loves a good adventure.”
We aren’t the only ones impressed as Firewatch sold around 500,000 copies in its first month, publisher Panic announced in a blog post. The blog reported the following:
“Firewatch has sold around 500,000 full-price copies in its first month. (It was even the top PlayStation Store digital download in February!) As an indie game, or heck, even as a “real” game, ok fine but not as a Call of Duty or Star Wars game, Firewatch can be considered a sales success.”
Firewatch retails for $20 bucks which translates into $10 million in revenue.
Panic also revealed that, after just one day, the publisher recouped its investment in the project. Not bad for an Indie game.
Also in the blog post, Panic discussed Firewatch’s post-launch support, which so far has included a patch that improved performance on PS4. Looking ahead, players can expect even more updates.
“We’re not quite done. We’re still fixing bugs,” Panic said. “And we’re still working on ways to improve performance all across the board, including on PlayStation 4 and the Mac. There’s more to come.”
Finally, Panic revealed that Firewatch players so far have uploaded 214,802 photos through the in-game camera that prints real-world photos.
