Tons of New Fallout 4 Details Revealed at QuakeCon 2015

QuakeCon, ZeniMax’s annual gaming showcase, has given fans of Fallout 4 lots of new details to satisfy their intense curiosity – or maybe just fuel it even further.

Among the new things we learned about the upcoming Fallout instalment:

  • There will be about a dozen possible companions, including Dogmeat, Mr. Handy, Preston Garvey, and ‘Piper,’ a newly-revealed companion whom your character might meet in Diamond City.
  • Mr. Handy will say your name out loud in the game — so, if your name is “Brad,” he will say “Brad.”   This is obviously drawing from some sort of database of common names – but, as the demo showed us, Mr. Handy’s list of names is surprisingly-varied.  For example, the names “Mr. Fuckface” and “Mr. Boobies” were given as possible options.  If nothing else, it shows the insane level of detail we can likely expect from Fallout 4. Mr. Handy is voiced by Stephen Russel, who also voiced Garret in Thief. Also, the inside of Mr. Handy is actually modeled, so we can apparently blow him up or take him apart at some point in the game.
  • Preston Garvey, a new character who we saw in Fallout Shelter (he’s one of those characters who has mad skills and helps your shelter out a lot), was shown at QuakeCon.  Here is what he will look like in Fallout 4:
  • Dogmeat was shown at QuakeCon.  We don’t have an official picture yet, but the developers Tweeted a picture of “River,” a real German Shepherd upon whom Dogmeat is apparently modelled.  Here he is:
  • In Fallout 4, you can romance your companions, regardless of whether you play as a male or female. No word on which characters they will be, nor how the game will handle these relationships.
  • A number of things from Fallout 3 will definitely return, including: bloody mess perk, Super Duper Mart, computer hacking, lock-picking, the Fat Man, and Super-Mutant Behemoths.
  • The levelling system will be a bit different in Fallout 4 than in Fallout 3. Perks will come from SPECIAL stats, and not levelling up.
