While Sony’s PS4 has been well-known to be leading in the sales race against rivals Xbox One and the Wii U, one top Sony executive claims that things are even more lopsided in Europe. In fact, Sony Europe President Jim Ryan revealed that the PS4 has a 70-90% market share in every European country.
Speaking with VG247, Ryan claimed the PS4 is currently enjoying a dominance in Europe that is unprecedented in the gaming industry.
“We have market leadership in every country in Europe,” said Ryan. “And have very significant market leadership in continental Europe. Extremely significant. I don’t think marketshare’s any less than 70 percent, and frequently greater than 90 percent in continental Europe.”
Ryan went on to explain that Sony has no immediate plans to cut the price of the console, since it is still selling so well at this price point.
“We’re happy with the price and we’re happy with the value proposition,” Ryan said. “We’ll leave it where it is for now.”
Worldwide, the PS4 has sold more than 22.3 million units as of March 31.
