Appearing at Microsoft’s Windows 10 event a couple weeks back Phil Spencer walked on to the stage sporting a Battletoads t-shirt. Of course he never actually said anything about the cult franchise during the presentation but the guys over at Gamespot tracked him down afterwards to get the skinny. Asking him if there was any hidden meaning to wearing the shirt Phil replied “I don’t think I’ve ever worn a t-shirt that’s been a complete head-fake. I wouldn’t do that.”
It’s no secret that the boys in green renewed their trademark for the Battletoads franchise back in November of 2014 so it looks like a safe bet that we’ll be seeing a renewed Battletoads game sometime in the near future. Battletoads was made by Rare and debuted on consoles way back in 1991 on the NES system and was known for its punishing difficulty. We bet there are more than a few gamers out there who’d be excited to see this franchise revived!
If only to taunt us a little bit more we saw the famous frogs make a cameo in the preview trailer for Shovel Knight on Xbox One at GDC today. This only further cements the theories that the Battletoads are set to make a new appearance. Can we count you among the hopeful?
