Nintendo Switch Browser Exploit Gets Exposed to the Public

Hacker Exposes Vulnerability in Nintendo Switch Browser and Publically Shares Screenshot

Now that users have uncovered the “hidden” Nintendo Switch browser in the system, which allows them to bypass limitations and access the full web browser instead of the restricted one, they’ve already found ways to exploit it. Apparently, the browser comes along with an old set of vulnerabilities which can be easily exploited. Hacker qwertyoruiop, known for their iOS Jailbreaks and PlayStation 4 1.76 Jailbreak, shared a screenshot of the barely two-week-old Nintendo Switch running a Webkit exploit.

All this user claims to have done was make some changes to their existing iOS Webkit exploit, remove some iOS specific code, and let the hack work itself. They haven’t provided full working proof for the exploit’s validity but, if you’re willing to try it out, you can find the pre-existing iOS exploit here on GitHub.

While this doesn’t mean much for the typical end-user, those who want to dive a bit deeper into the inner kernel workings of the system will find this to be awesome info. Qwertyoruiop makes note that the Nintendo Switch’s syscalls don’t look like FreeBSD, leaning towards the OS not being based on FreeBDS and more like an iteration of the 3DS OS code.

Nintendo will most likely be quick to jump on this exploit and push a firmware patch, as it could lead to further exploits of the system’s internal kernel.
