Sony Filed a Patent for a Handheld Device Similar to Nintendo Switch

Apparently, Sony Also Desires a Console You May Take to the Bathroom

Sony may just be taking some cues from Nintendo. And who would blame them? Looks like the leading seller of consoles desires portability under their belt. But not any ordinary portable device; one glimpse and you’ll note the startling similarities to the Nintendo Switch.

Moreover, this patent wasn’t exactly issued recently. Thanks to the observation of NeoGAF user ponpo, we know it was filed back in 2015, before the Nintendo Switch was officially revealed. But that really just raises more questions. Nevertheless, the patent was just recently published, and we have the official image courtesy of blog.esuteru.com

Sony Switch

Quickly, you’ll note the tablet-like appearance and the controller half on either side. Although they look detachable, it’s not confirmed that they are. Additionally, their similarity to the DualShock controllers for PlayStation 4 certainly help this print standout as a Sony device. Maybe, as we learn more, we’ll discover an HD Rumble function and that they come in neon colors. But even as it sits, it easily resembles the Nintendo Switch. We’re calling it the Sony Switch for now.

When it comes to patents, however, nothing is set in stone. Even if Sony decides to launch this device, it may not arrive in its current form. Yet at the very least, we know the company is paying attention to Nintendo. Smart.

But tell us what you think of this Sony Switch patent. Too much like Nintendo Switch? Comment down below and let us know. And more more gaming news as it arrives, stay tuned to COGconnected. Happy gaming.
