The Top 5 Moments From the Ubisoft E3 2017 Press Conference

2. Shigeru Miyamoto Appeared!

If you ever need to light up a room of gamers, just get Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamoto to make an appearance! Ubisoft kicked off its press conference this year with the official announcement and in-depth look at the upcoming Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a turn-based tactical combat game starring everyone’s favorite plumber. But what better way to grab the attention of everyone in the room than to have the Nintendo legend himself stop in?

Mario + Rabbids

Miyamoto sported a replica of the blaster Mario himself will wield in the upcoming game, providing another one to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot on stage. While the game itself has suffered several leaks and wasn’t particularly surprising, seeing Miyamoto’s shining smile was a fantastic start to Ubisoft’s conference.

1. Beyond Good and Evil 2

You could feel the electricity as soon as the trailer got into gear. Fans have been waiting for this sequel for far, far too long. It was starting to look like the game itself was merely a pipe dream, an idle fancy to be held and hoped for and wished upon. Its hard to imagine a more fitting way to close out Ubisoft’s conference than with the stunning, soulful, and downright fantastic trailer that is Beyond Good and Evil 2.

There are some people reading this who might not even know what the game is, the original title having launched all the way back in 2003. This cult classic originally followed the exploits of Jade, an investigative reporter who follows a resistance movement in an effort to expose a planet-wide alien conspiracy. The game has been critically acclaimed and considered one of the highlights in the legacy of Ubisoft. The sequel has a lot to live up to, but if the trailer is any indication it is going to be an absolutely indescribable ride.

Honorable Mentions

Selecting 5 moments for this list was difficult, as Ubisoft had hit after hit this year. This list is designed to reflect memorable moments, not just the games themselves, but it would be a disservice not to give a nod to the games that would easily top this list had it been about sheer excitement:

  • Assassin’s Creed: Origins
  • Far Cry 5
  • South Park: The Fractured But Whole
