The Unreal Engine 4 Compilation Video Takes Us to Multiple Locations such as Elwynn Forest and Durotar
World of Warcraft is the gold standard for MMORPGs. It is one of the highest grossing video game franchises ever, amassing over 9 billion dollars. Originally launching in late 2004, the game has seen the standard of graphics steadily evolve into the visually stunning masterpieces they are today. But have you ever wondered what WoW could look like if backed by one of the fancy, modern engines? Well, wonder no longer.
Daniel L has been recreating the various areas of World of Warcraft in Unreal Engine 4 for a while. Since 2015, Daniel has been toiling over his project, investing countless hours to improve the graphics. The results are staggering.
It is a matter of opinion as to whether or not realistic graphics belong in World of Warcraft. Some believe that trying to compete with the ever-improving standard of graphics is impossible. Furthermore, it may take away from the magic that the uniquely Blizzard designs conjure.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Wow’s lead designer Kevin Martens says “a lot of plans and potential storylines going on decades, maybe even 100 years of stuff we could do with Azeroth”. This leaves the door open for Blizzard to modernize the graphics. This is definitely in accordance with the recent scoop that Blizzard has a lot of phases in the works for the future.
