Fortnite Champ Kyle Giersdorf Goes From the Gaming Screen to the TV Screen
Kyle Giersdorf is the new Fortnite champion of the world. As a reward, Giersdorf is receiving 3 million dollars and, perhaps more excitingly, is getting attention from television personalities. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Giersdorf took time to discuss winning and the origin of his nickname – “Bugha”.
After winning the competition on Sunday, 16-year-old Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf has gotten to meet Jimmy Fallon. Fallon is known for his work on Saturday Night Live, the movie “Taxi” with Queen Latifa, and hosting his award-winning late-night show. Winning three million and meeting a celebrity is a pretty good way of spending the weekend. Not to mention that he is only 16.
Expectedly, Fallon handles the majority of the interview. Impressively, Giersdorf handles himself well for somebody who has had greatness thrust upon him. Looking at Giersdorf’s situation, I can’t help but harken back to the famous Shakespeare quote; “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”
Regarding the origin of his nickname, Giersdorf says “My grandpa gave me the name when I was a baby. He used to say, ‘Bugha, bugha, bugha,’ and I used to laugh. So that’s where I get it from.”
If you were judging the nickname (which is okay, I was) then I bet you feel foolish. The story is cute and adds personability to the likeable teenager. Who knows if he will pursue this fame or if it is merely his fleeting fifteen minutes.
