Those Eager for Elder Scrolls 6 Need to Exercise Some Patience

Elder Scrolls 6 Does Not Appear to be Very Close to its Release

Ever since the Elder Scrolls 6 was teased during E3 2018, fans have been speculating about details of the game. Rumours abound regarding specifics such as release date or the setting. Today, Bethesda Game Studios executive producer Todd Howard shed some light on the future of Elder Scrolls. According to Howard, “… everyone should be very patient” when it comes to waiting for a sequel; to 2011’s Skyrim.

Howards continues, “The gap in between is going to be long, It already is. On one hand, I think it’s good to miss things. I think that makes people come to it with really, really fresh eyes, and I think when they eventually—eventually—see the game and what we have in mind, they’ll understand the gap more in terms of technology and what we want it to do”.

Howard mentioning fans may be surprised “in terms of technology” may refer to the rumor that Elder Scrolls 6 will launch on the next generation consoles. It could also reference a video depicting that Elder Scroll 6 will look to use advanced techniques to improve graphics.

The major reason Bethesda is allowing the time gap between the 2011 release of Skyrim and Elder Scrolls 6 to grow is due to the popularity of both The Elder Scrolls Online and Skyrim. Howard describes Elder Scrolls Online as “hugely popular” and the upcoming expansion ‘Elsweyr‘ is generating a lot of excitement. The Skyrim Special edition currently resides at 32 on Steam’s top 100 games, with a daily peak of 11,722 players.

Howard says the continued success of Skyrim is weighing on how the studio approaches Elder Scrolls 6. Regarding the game’s success, he says “So what that does—and we’re eight years post-Skyrim—it lets us know going into Elder Scrolls 6, this is a game we need to design that people will play for a decade at least. At least.”

Who knows when the Elder Scrolls 6 will come out. Bethesda is choosing to focus on Starfield right now so it will still be some time.
