Respawn Are Committing to Apex Legends for the Long Term
Apex Legends season 2 is on the precipice of its release, and fans of the game can look forward to more seasons in the future. Respawn is investing significant effort into promoting Apex Legends and hopes to elevate its stature within the gaming community. One of the ways Respawn has done this is by seemingly including dragons in season 2. According to executive produce Drew McCoy, this is because the developers are planning to stand by Apex Legends for quite a while. This is impressive considering the game appears to be struggling to compete in a market crowded with battle royale games.
In an interview with USgamer, McCoy says “Most people don’t realize how long it takes to make anything, and so a character for us takes about a year and a half to make. So we’ve been playing Wattson since early last year, but we have so much stuff in the pipe right now coming that people are always like, ‘So what are you guys gonna do for this or that?’ Like dude, we’re thinking years ahead at this point.”
McCoy continues, “We do believe in this game as a live game. We’re never gonna make an Apex 2; hoping next Season 72 is awesome. That’s kind of where our head is at: how are we setting this up for the long term.”
Some critics of the game point to the infrequent updates but the studio claims this is intentional. Respawn focuses on ensuring high-quality additions as opposed to continuously releasing minimal content.
