Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Reigns Supreme in 2016
Despite all of the hate for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it was the best selling video game in the US for 2016 and it only took two months following its release! Yes, you read that right. In the newest report by the NPD group, the ten best selling games for the year were listed, which included Overwatch, Final Fantasy XV and Battlefield 1 as well.
Not only were the top ten video games of the year published in this report, but also the top selling games of December 2016 across all platforms and on both the PS4 and Xbox One individually. We all know that the Infinite Warfare reveal trailer was far from well received, with 3,433,765 million dislikes on Youtube, however the sales speak for themselves! Infinite Warfare was the best selling game for the Xbox One in December 2016, followed by Battlefield 1 and Final Fantasy XV took the number one spot for the PS4, followed by Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Interestingly, Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: Black Ops III made the list, both of which were released prior to 2016!
The information for the lists is not set to generalise the market and comes from “both online and retails sales, as well as full-game digital downloads from participating publishers.” Which means for example, that Overwatch may have been more popular than listed because there are no numbers from battle.net. But hey, it still took home the GOTY award at the 2016 Game Awards!
Even with the slow start in sales, Infinite Warfare seems to have captured the hearts and TVs of gamers across the US.
