State of Decay 2 Video Review – Yet Another Missed Opportunity for Xbox

State of Decay 2 Video Review

With high expectations for building off of the original, State of Decay 2 was looking to be the Microsoft title they needed to get back in the race for quality exclusives. With a series of underwhelming titles before it, State of Decay 2 promised to take what people loved about the original and add in a quality co-op experience, refined mechanics, and generally supply us, the gamers, with a proper modern take on the series. What we received, however, was substantially less than what Undead Labs promised. With unacceptable problems and lackluster content, State of Decay 2 missed the mark all too often. Curious what we mean by that? Check out our video review below to see our thoughts on this new release that shuffles rather than runs.

The game is an open world zombie survival game with its newest key feature being the introduction of co-op. Players are tasked with creating a base, rescuing survivors, and killing zombies to survive. You’ll need to build your settlements, supply medicine, food, ammo, and more to the people, as well as rescue stranded and desperate survivors. While the game has some great survival mechanics and coherent ideas, its execution and extensive encounters with bugs are serious cues the title simply wasn’t ready for release.

In our review, Paul said: “I was about to launch into another broken situation here, but I’m sure you get the point. The point is this: although there’s a very competent core loop and entertaining resource management sim somewhere within State of Decay 2, it’s really, really, broken. Unacceptably so. It frustrated me mightily to see a flash of a game I wanted to play, only to be immediately reminded that it’s not ready for release.”

State of Decay 2 is available now on PC and Xbox One. For more information on the game, check out the game’s official website.
