Secret of Mana Remake Video Review – Secretly Trapped in The 90s

Secret of Mana Remake Video Review

In the 90s, gamers were blessed with arguably some of the greatest RPG games of all time. The Super Nintendo ushered in some of the greatest experiences us seasoned gamers can remember and gave us the inspiration for some of today’s greatest games. Among those titles was Secret of Mana, a story about prophecy, friendship, and legend, which for its time was innovative in a variety of mechanics. 25 years later, Secret of Mana – available in its original form on the SNES Classic – has been given the remaster treatment with modern graphics and audio and its classic feel, but how well does this translate to modern gaming? With our heart in our throat, we take a look at Secret of Mana Remake in the hopes it can live up to its former glory. Check out our video review below to see what we thought of the game.

Secret of Mana Remake is an enhanced and restored version of the original classic Secret of Mana from 1993. With enhanced graphics and sound, and all new 3D models as opposed to sprites, players take control of the Hero, who falls down a waterfall and discovers a rusty sword embedded in stone. As he draws the blade, enemies appear and the quest to save the world begins. Secret of Mana changes little – if anything – from the original game, including the recharging combat bar, the odd inventory system, and strangely enough the lack of facial expressions.
