Night in the Woods – Finji – PS4, PC (Jan 10)
When we covered this Kickstarter-funded game a few weeks back we called it out for being an early contender for your most stylish game of 2017. This indie adventure game screams style and while it may not have that big AAA billing it looks like it’s shaping up to be a wholly unique experience. Full of sarcastic humor, quirky characters, and wonderfully put together set pieces this game is the very definition of what is coming to be known as III. The term surfaced last year mostly and was used in reference to games like Firewatch and Life is Strange for indie games that have serious production values behind them to stand above other games in the indie scene. Join college dropout Mae Borowski as she returns home to the crumbling former mining town of Possum Springs seeking to resume her aimless former life and reconnect with the friends she left behind. But things aren’t the same. Home seems different now and her friends have grown and changed. Leaves are falling and the wind is growing colder. Strange things are happening as the light fades.
And there’s something in the woods.
Yakuza 0 – Sega – PS4 (Jan 24)
After being available overseas for nearly two years the open world, action adventure of Yakuza 0 makes its way to Europe and North America on January 24th. A prequel to the Yakuza series of games, it takes place in December of 1988 in Kamurocho and Sotenbori, a fictionalized recreation of Tokyo’s Kabukicho Shinjuku Golden Gai areas and Osaka’s Dotonbori areas. With a fantastic reception upon its release in Japan (debuting at number one) we’re not sure it’ll get quite the same response on North American shores but there’s no doubt that legions of fans are hyped to get their hands on it. After a painfully long wait, there are only a few weeks left to go.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – Capcom – PC, PS4, X1 (Jan 24)
Buckle up, buttercup and put on those big kid pants because Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is here to scare you senseless. The first game in the Resident Evil series to ever go first-person puts players in the shoes of Ethan Winters as he searches for his missing wife, Mia. Featuring an entirely new cast of characters with loose connections to previous games in the series, this iteration of the Resident Evil series is also the first to be created with virtual reality in mind. For gamers owning a PSVR rig, and the stones big enough to handle it, you can experience the terror from inside. Turn out the lights, turn up the headphones and prepare yourself for January 24th.
