3) PS4 Pro/ Xbox One S Consoles as an Alternative
At the time of launch, there are no games only available on the Xbox One X. The cross-compatibility offered by Microsoft between the previous Xbox generations and the Xbox One X, is a great pro-consumer move; however, it makes for less of a reason to buy the Xbox One X right out of the gate. The Xbox One S offers all of these same games as well. Pair this with the price point, and it seems way more reasonable to pick up a PS4 Pro or Xbox One S console, which both offer some of the same technology, including 4K capabilities. And with the recent news of the Rapid Packed Math, AMD’s new high-end RX Vega graphics cards for the PS4 Pro, developers can take full advantage of the tech that is not even available for the Xbox One X. Considering just how well these alternative consoles perform, it might be best to stick with a PS4 Pro or Xbox One S until you see a decrease in price for the Xbox One X.
2) Price
Although many will argue that the Xbox One X is worth the price, and sure it is reasonable for the hardware it sports, $500 (plus tax and warranty) can buy you a lot of other things. Aside from regular living expenses, $500 can get you a lot within the industry. Of course, the Xbox One X is not exactly marketed for everyone, and where others will jump at the idea of a brand new console, with new capabilities, others will be less enthused with the current price. Michael Pachter, industry analyst, has even said that the price of the Xbox One X is what kills the potential. Just think about it for a second. For the price of the Xbox One X, you could buy a PS4 Pro and an Xbox One S! I don’t know about you, but when hasn’t two for the price of one made more sense? It’s probably the best idea to wait and see if the price will drop, and even if it doesn’t, the Xbox One X might be worth that price next year, when more games are available.
1) Small and Less Than Stellar Launch Lineup
While there are going to be some enjoyable games available for the Xbox One at launch (Forza 7 looks stunning), the large majority of them have either been on the market for a while, or they are available on the previous generation consoles around the time of launch. A few prime examples of this are The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Destiny 2, and Assassin’s Creed Origins. But if you look to the future, you can see that 2018 holds a bunch of new titles that will not only take advantage of the Xbox One X specs, but will also offer a brand new gaming experience. Next year will see the launch of some massive exclusive titles for the Xbox One X including Crackdown 3, and State of Decay 2, as well as some other highly anticipated titles like Anthem, Beyond Good And Evil 2 and Metro Exodus that while not exclusive, will add a ton of replayability to the console itself. Do yourself a favor and avoid the post-launch drought of games buyers of the Xbox One X are going to experience, especially with the recent delay of the much-anticipated launch title Crackdown 3, and wait until 2018 to pick up the console.
