Top 10 Games of Last Generation Countdown – Number 7

Alex Everatt (Contributor) and Ahmed Mohamed (Contributor) – Assassin’s Creed 2

Alex: As great as the original Assassin’s Creed was, it was Assassin’s Creed II that really got this franchise swan diving to great depths! Bringing a much more likable protagonist with Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a much larger world, and many new skills it truly was a perfect sequel. And while we’ve had a few great Assassin’s Creed games since, Ubisoft’s yearly AC release schedule has really watered down the experience. Hopefully, we’ll see a return to proper form sooner than later!

Ahmed: The first adventure with Ezio Auditore di Firenze is one I will never forget. Drama, action, serenity, betrayal, and an open world years ahead of its competition. Yet all of this was actually just the cherry on top of the cake. Without Ezio, Assassin’s Creed 2 is left hollow. Something that cannot be said for the sequels that came.

Nicholas Plouffe (Editor) – Gears of War

Many can recall the Gears of War trailer with ease. Not only was this a great cover-based Third Person Shooter, but it held some of the best moments in gaming for its time like firing off the Hammer of Dawn or chainsawing through enemies.

James Paley (News Editor/Contributor) – Final Fantasy XII

Final Fantasy XII (or Final Hallway 13 if you’re feeling sassy) was the FF experience distilled to a pure elixir. The key moments in any good FF game – the decisive battles, the touching cut scenes – were extracted and condensed into a tightknit tour through a beautifully rendered game world. Haters got all miserable over the lack of wandering involved in most of it, but that was traditionally saved for the last half anyway. Plus the combat system was hot as all hell.
