COG’s Top 3 Next Gen Games You Need to Avoid

Alright I get it.  You dropped some serious cash on a few PS4 or Xbox One launch games and you just don’t want to give up on any of them quite yet.  It’s early right?  I mean it’s barely been a month since the new consoles arrived.  Days pass and you cannot help but notice you aren’t playing one or two of those launch games as much as you should.  You’re trying to enjoy them by giving them an hour here and an hour there but it’s just not working out.  Heck you even started lying to your friends convincing them NBA Live ain’t that bad.  Yet you know the truth and NBA Live isn’t getting any better.  In fact, it only gets worse.  Eventually you become angrier and disappointed with all that money you blew.  You are contemplating trading the games in but you are desperately holding out hope that the game will somehow miraculously get better.  I understand.  I have been there and it sucks.

Well I am here to tell you it doesn’t get any better and that you need to cut your losses.  Cheat codes and easy achievement points are not enough to save a stinker.  So cut your losses now!  Fortunately for us Canadians you can trade in any next generation game and get a $40.00 gift card from your local Future Shop or Best Buy.  For many of you I strongly suggest you take advantage of this deal – especially if you own one the games on this list.

Without further delay here are 3 games you absolutely need to avoid this holiday season.  My condolences to some of you who had to learn the hard way.

Fighter Within (Xbox One)

COG Review Score:  20

Ubisoft’s Fighter Within is not the start Kinect version 2.0 was looking for. If anything it gives all the Xbox One doomsayers a glaring example of why the Kinect should have been abandoned a long time ago. Even if this game was a fraction of its baffling $59.99 price tag, I would not recommend it for anyone. The Fighter Within has only one good thing going for it and that is you can burn a few calories after a fight or two. Otherwise, do yourself a favour, avoid this game as it’s awful.

LocoCycle (Xbox One)

COG Review Score: 40

The whole experience frustrates me. Driving at insane speeds on a wise cracking sentient motorcycle should be gaming nirvana, but the writing, mechanics, and design of Loc0Cycle are subpar. It’s not worth the price of admission, and is one of the Xbox One’s weaker launch titles.

NBA Live 2014 (PS4 and Xbox One)

COG Review Score:  50

For my interest in something to be increased, it has to be entertaining. This is where NBA Live 14 ultimately falls short for me. It seems to have the best of intentions with some of the things it is trying to do, especially the integration of the current NBA season into the game. It gets some parts (such as Big Moments) right while other parts don’t appear to be fully baked. I can’t help but wonder if it would have been better for the series to have skipped the launch season in favour of a a game truly worth of the next-gen tag next year.
