Recently we put together a huge list of all the upcoming games that Xbox One owners get to look forward to in 2014. The list was so big that we had to split it into two parts separating Q1 and Q2 from Q3, Q4 and early 2015! Well rest easy all you PS4 owners, we haven’t forgotten about you! An impressive list of games are coming your way too from some of Sony’s best development houses and you have some great reasons to be excited for 2014. Take a look at what you get to look forward to in the first two quarters of 2014 and stay tuned for part 2 where we look at Q3, Q4 and beyond in a few days!

Tomb Raider was originally released back in March of 2013 and is a solid candidate for many game of the year lists. Mixing gorgeous graphics, a fantastic origin story, superb gameplay and the best Lara Croft voice work ever this title gets the next-gen upgrade for the PS4. Including all previously released DLC and upgraded visuals this is one for those that might have missed it the first time around (check out our review) as well as fans of the last gen version.

THIEF – FEB 25, 2014

The forefather of stealth games is making its triumphant return to an eager gaming populace. Arguably one of the biggest inspirations for games like Assassin’s Creed or Dishonored it’s set to make a splash on to consoles late in February. Garrett, the master thief, is back after a nearly 10yr absence from gaming and the hype train has hit breakneck speeds. One of the most hotly anticipated games of next year despite its leery reception by some of the media at E3 this year.

A gorgeous and extremely fun to play title from the past gen gets its next gen upgrade. We loved it due to its addictive gameplay, unending collectibles and stunning backdrops. This one is worth checking out if you gave it a pass in 2013.

Sucker Punch Productions, one of Sony’s most revered studios, is back with the third installment in the inFAMOUS series. Sticking with the familiar open world action that gamers have come to love from the first two they will now get to take control of Delsin, a 24 yr old graffiti artist living in Seattle, Washington. Set 7 years after the good ending of inFAMOUS 2 the story looks to be intriguing and action packed. Easily one of the most anticipated PS4 exclusives for 2014.

Fans of air combat have a little something to get excited about with this title from Gaijin Entertainment making the jump from PC on to the PS4. A MMO style game supporting dogfights with up to 32 pilots it’s sure to satisfy fans of what is largely an underserved genre.

Originally slated as a launch, or at the very least a close to launch title, Driveclub was delayed last year to add a bit more polish. After getting his hands on it at E3 COG’s very own The Outcast probably applauded the delay as he was left unimpressed with what was on offer before the announcement. Developed by Evolution Studios, makers of the MotorStorm franchise, they move their racing from off road to on road and with any luck the extra development time turns this one into a solid racing title.

PLANETSIDE 2 – Q1 2014

President of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley, has big words to hype up the release of PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 system calling it ‘the massive multiplayer Halo for Playstation 4’. Oh please be true! Jumping over from the PC it brings great FPS gameplay on a grand scale over to the console world.

In Lonetree, a cutthroat town full of outlaws and bounty hunters, everyone is gunning for your head. Create your outlaw and engage in multiplayer duels to determine who lives, who dies, and who becomes a legend. Developed by SwitchBlade Monkeys this is but one of many indie titles getting love from Sony in 2014.

Sony keeps on bringing the indie love by supporting Spry Fox and their roguelike puzzler Road Not Taken that will be debuting on both the PS4 and PS Vita in 2014. Spry Fox takes on Robert Frost’s poem of the same name and throws you into a beautifully stylized mysterious forest in the aftermath of a snow storm. As you explore, you’ll come across wild animals, impassable barriers, and lost children. Road Not Taken explores the question: “What happens when life’s events throw you off the path you expected to take?”

DAYLIGHT – Q1 2014

Developed by Zombie Studios this first person survival horror game is sure to increase sales of adult sized Depends all across North America in 2014. Procedurally generated levels ensure that no level is the same as you navigate an abandoned and haunted hospital armed with nothing more than your cell phone and the light it creates.

What’s this? Even more indie love thrown out by Sony? Developer Bloober Team brings Basement Crawl, a strategic action game featuring creepy characters, challenging environments and maze-based competitive multiplayer to the PS4 console. Up to 8 players compete in grid-based arenas as they race to set traps and explosives in order to hinder or defeat their enemies. Featuring four classes, each utilizing a variety of unique bombs and power-ups, this will allow players to use any number of strategies to defeat their opponents.

Reminiscent of old school side-scrolling shoot ‘em up Metal Slug gamers can look forward to Mercenary Kings from Tribute Games early in 2014. Funded through Kickstarter and developed by the team responsible for Scott Pilgrim vs The World gamers can thank Sony for yet another bone being thrown to great indie developers.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that invites you to explore the realm of Eorzea with friends from around the world. Form a party and adventure with a multitude of players from across the globe. Forge friendships, mount chocobos, and board airships as you and your companions create your own unique stories in Eorzea. WATCH DOGS – Q2 2014

Gamers everywhere were extremely disappointed when they learned that what would have likely been the best new IP at launch had been delayed into 2014. Watch_Dogs had received plenty of attention at E3 and gamers were frothing at the mouth to dive into future Chicago with Aiden Pearce. Sadly Ubisoft chose to hold off on release and give the game more polish. Despite the disappointment it’s not necessarily a bad thing that more time is being taken to deliver the best game possible. We got a solid look at what Ubisoft has in store during an exclusive preview back at E3 and we have no doubt that Watch_Dogs will deliver.

Indie darling Jonathan Blow, perhaps best known for the multiplatform hit Braid, brings his 3D puzzle adventure game The Witness to the PS4 sometime near mid-2014. Considering that the game has been in development since 2008 gamers are eager to see what Jonathan has in store for them. As indie titles go this one might be the one most wanted by gamers.

It seems as if LEGO can do no wrong when it comes to their game franchises (well aside from LEGO Friends perhaps) and with The Hobbit they aren’t likely to go wrong now. Obviously based on the movie trilogy brick builders can get their hands on this one sometime in the second quarter of 2014.

Serving as a standalone prologue for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes is a stealth action-adventure game coming sometime in the spring of 2014. Taking place in 1975 players will take Snake to a military black site in Cuba called Camp Omega.

UFC 2014 – Q2 2014

Taking over the reins from the now defunct THQ it would seem like EA has some big shoes to fill with this game. EA Sports MMA was a good introduction but now they’re playing with the big boys. One of the fastest growing sports in the world both in viewership and participation there are a lot of people excited to get their paws on UFC 2014. Rumoured to be out early May with Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson gracing the cover, ladies and gentlemen…. IT’S TIME!

The eighth official installment in the long running Dynasty Warriors series this compilation sees the original DW8 and its expansion pack Xtreme Legends put together for PS4 owners. Admittedly I’m far too much of a North American gamer to know much about this one but I do know that it has a huge following nonetheless. The beat ‘em up is scheduled to hit the North American market near to the official Japanese launch date of the console.

The upcoming remake of the 1997 PC hit Abe’s Oddysee is set to hit the PS4 late in the second quarter of 2014. Completely rebuilt from scratch with up to date graphics this is one game that gamers can count on to be worth picking up. A solid pedigree and one of the most beloved games of its generation this jump into 2014 will be a great one.

One of the best single player RPG experiences makes the jump to the world of MMO. Not only that it does it on consoles too which is a realm very rarely explored by the genre. We got some play time in with this one back in May and at E3 and it’s shaping up to be an amazing experience. Feel free to check out our preview and then mark June on your calendar for the full release.

MLB 14: THE SHOW – Q2 2014

Sony’s award winning baseball franchise makes its next gen debut! Fans of the series are a devoted bunch and are likely drooling into their mitts in anticipation for this gorgeous looking title.
