7. Super Bomberman R
If Nintendo knows anything, its nostalgia. With up to 8 players able to compete online, Super Bomberman R is another great party title for the Switch to kick off its launch with. Gameplay remains the classic experience of setting up bombs and scurrying about as you try to blow up your opponents, but the game is now presented with updated photorealistic graphics and a host of updated features to bring Bomberman to the modern gaming experience. Super Bomberman R will not only feature up to 8 player online battle modes but also a 2 player co-op story adventure, making this a title you could potentially take on the go to play with your friend wherever you are using the kickstand feature on the screen. It’s a nice addition to the launch titles and helps supplement the idea of gaming with your friends.
6. 1-2 Switch
A brand new title from Nintendo, 1-2 Switch was introduced to us at Nintendo’s Switch conference. There has been some controversy over 1-2 Switch in that, given its a series of mini-games to show off what the Switch can do much like Wii Sports and Nintendoland, this really ought to simply be bundled with the Switch itself rather than its own game. The idea behind 1-2 Switch is to give players a party game experience where the TV is not the focal point. Instead, players rely on focusing on one another to win the various games available. It’s undeniably an innovative concept and, again, it’s sure to bring a lot of laughs and fun to multiplayer, but a lot of people are on the fence about it as its own standalone game. With Nintendo touring to show off the Switch, more and more information is coming out about 1-2 Switch and the potential for this game to show off what Nintendo has done is huge, it’s just a question of “Is it worth full retail price?”
5. World of Goo
This is a title that is deceptively fun and is a fantastic addition to the Switch. Developed by 2D Boy, World of Goo is a unique physics based puzzle game. Players are tasked with creating a path for living goo blobs to reach a goal, avoiding harmful obstacles and all manner of weird creatures. The real challenge comes from creating these paths: goo is stretched from one glob to the next to create simple structures, but to keep its shape players must also focus on weight distribution, counter balancing, and environmental effects like wind pushing your goo around. World of Goo has fantastic physics and a great sense of humor which – much like Human Resource Machine – makes this a great game for taking on the go to get in a relaxing round or two while on the bus or simply taking a break. Originally launching as an indie title nine years ago, World of Goo is a great physics game to add to the Switch’s launch library.
