Ex-Sony CEO Calls the Lack of ‘Fortnite’ Crossplay on PS4 ‘Dumb’

The Lack of Crossplay on the PS4 Version of Fortnite Has Drawn Criticism

Last week, the Nintendo Switch port of Fortnite, a popular Battle Royale game, was officially announced. However, PS4 players who bought the port were surprised to find that they couldn’t sign in by using the account they used on Sony’s console so none of their character progress could carry over.

Sony released a vague statement about the issue last Thursday but an ex-Sony CEO has recently cited money as the reason for why there’s a lack of crossplay for PS4 Fortnite players.

Former Sony Online Entertainment CEO John Smedley stated on Twitter that when he worked at Sony, the reason for this business practice “was money”. “They didn’t like someone buying something on an Xbox and it being used on a Playstation. Simple as that,” Smedley tweeted.

Smedley described Sony’s logic as “dumb” and also encouraged people to continue to put pressure on Sony in order to get them to change this controversial business practice, tweeting that “if we keep the pressure up this problem goes away.”

What do you think about this controversy? Should Sony let up and allow crossplay in Fortnite between the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One or should they continue this business practice? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
