E3 2018: Anthem Gets Another Spectacular Showing

‘Our World, My Story’

Anthem got a huge showing at the end of EA’s E3 conference on Saturday and its developers spoke extensively about several of its features on-stage.

Casey Hudson, the General Manager of Bioware, described Anthem as a “dynamic” open world game that’s different from the usual singleplayer/multiplayer games. Hudson stated that their game wasn’t an MMO and another Bioware developer said that it was going to be “a shared story” instead.

“What’s really exciting for us,” said Cathleen Rootsaert, the game’s lead writer, ” is we’re creating something new and exciting for the player.”

In the story of Anthem, players take control of a freelancer who is able to use the game’s exosuits or “Javelins”. The game’s main story can be played solo or cooperatively and same goes for exploring the game’s open world. Notably, there won’t be PvP in Anthem.

Rootsaert went onto describe the world of Anthem as a hazardous one that was “unfinished by the gods”. If players hope to survive such a treacherous world then they’ll need a Javelin, the developers explained. There are four different types of Javelins in the game and each type offers unique playstyles.

Javelins are also customizable and players will be able to purchase cosmetic microtransactions. However, there won’t be any lootboxes or pay-to-win features, according to Bioware.

Anthem is scheduled to come out on February 22, 2019 for the PC, PS4 & Xbox One.
