Mafia III Devs Are Opening a New UK Studio

Hangar 13 Could Possibly Be Working On An Unnanounced Project

Hangar 13, the developers behind 2016’s Mafia III, have recently announced that they’re opening a new studio in Brighton, England. With this new studio, Hangar 13 now has four office locations in different parts of the world: the U.S., the UK, and two cities in the Czech Republic.

“It says something that a studio working on one or two big console or PC games has to have offices around the globe to keep working on a round-the-clock basis,” noted a GamesBeat report about the UK studio’s opening. “With four offices in Novato, California; Brighton, and two cities in the Czech Republic, Hangar 13 can do that.”

The report is most likely referring to the next game that Hangar 13 is reportedly trying to work on. Last month, Kotaku reported that the developer was struggling to figure out what their next project would be but it seems like the opening of this new studio indicates that Hangar 13 is moving forward with a new project.

Notably, according to Hangar 13 boss Haden Blackman, the UK studio is expected to contribute to projects that other Hangar 13 studios are already working on and it won’t be independent.

In February, Hangar 13 was hit with a huge amount of layoffs but Blackman said in his interview with GamesBeat that the Brighton studio’s opening had nothing to do with those layoffs.

“We’re excited to have it be announced and become official,” Blackman said to GamesBeat. “To be successful in Triple-A, this is the right direction to go. It’s an exciting time to build Triple-A games.”
