Beyond Good and Evil 2 Gameplay, E3, and More Revealed

Here Is the Current State of Beyond Good and Evil 2

Earlier today, Ubisoft graced fans everywhere with a livestream for Beyond Good and Evil 2. During the livestream, developers revealed some fascinating tidbits on the state of the game and its timeline. Moreover, they showed some footage of the current build.

Development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 is currently being handled by Ubisoft Montpelier, a studio comprised of 120 employees. In addition, they’re receiving assistance from Ubisoft Sofia, Barcelona, and Bordeaux. As I anticipated yesterday, the company is utilizing multiple studios for a smoother and quicker development process. It may be that we’re witnessing the result of that additional labor in the footage below.

Though the game is a work in progress, Ubisoft developers have seemingly nailed down the mechanics for in-game flight – Jetpacks and ships can move dynamically, and the livestream introduced a lock-on feature that allows players in co-op to form cohesive fleets. Moreover, the new gameplay footage reveals one aspect of the ground combat. You can see for yourself.

Beyond good and Evil 2 is being prepped for E3 which is currently the team’s focus. Despite revealing new gameplay footage today, along with new details, it seems the team has additional surprises in store for the big event this June. Details I haven’t yet mentioned pertain to character creation. Players will have the opportunity to create their own pirate captain, who may range from human, hybrid, female, male, to “different genders.” It will be a very “open” and seamless experience in the world known as System 3. In that vein, players can switch from dynamic air combat to ground combat, thanks to jetpacks.

The sequel (technically also a prequel) will facilitate solo and co-op experience in which the player character can recruit unique crew members. For now, it’s unclear if crew members will be player-controlled. More details await at E3, so stay tuned for news as it arrives.

Happy gaming.
