Sony Used Actual Old Norse In God of War Score

Pulling Out All The Stops For This One

The latest entry in the God of War series is moving in a new direction, and it looks like the developers are doing everything they can to establish this fact. Case in point, they went all the way to Iceland for that authentic old Norse sound when composing the score. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing it right, you know?

Lead music producer Peter Scaturro noted how “modern Icelandic hasn’t changed very much in the last thousand years, so it’s very close to old Norse.” They even found a choir, Schola Cantorum, that sings in old Norse. Together with a translator, the team was able to create an authentic sound that really captures that Nordic feel for the game.

After that, a second choir was layered on top, giving the score that ominous sound we heard during the E3 demo. With only twelve days left until the game comes out, excitement is building to a fever pitch. At the very least, many of us here at COG are pretty psyched.
