The Anticipated Game Has an October Release Date, According to Target
Update (4:32 PM): Kingdom Hearts III’s street date on the Target webpage has been changed to December 30th. This could be a placeholder release date for the game.
Update (2:49 PM): A Square Enix spokesperson has gotten back to us about this story. “Square Enix has not officially announced the release date for Kingdom Hearts III,” the spokesperson said. “While we cannot speak directly for our retail partner, we imagine this to be a system error, which we anticipate to be remedied soon.”
The release date for Kingdom Hearts III is October 31st, according to the Target webpage. The release date for the Disney-themed RPG was supposed to be announced at this summer’s E3.
In Kingdom Hearts III, players will take control of Sora and fight alongside his companions, Donald Duck and Goofy, as they travel through Disney-themed levels that are based off of Disney films such as Toy Story 3.
Last summer, the game was said to have less of these Disney levels than its predecessor, Kingdom Hearts II.
The game was first announced at E3 2013 and was originally expected to come out last year. However, it was explained last January that Kingdom Hearts III wasn’t going to come out in 2017 due to still being in development.
“We’re steadily progressing on production, but the wait will be be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake,” said Tetsuya Nomura, the director for both Kingdom Hearts III and the Final Fantasy VII remake, at the time.
“I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that meets expectations. The release of the titles themselves have still have a way to go,” added Nomura.
Nomura has said that one level in Kingdom Hearts III is “equivalent to one (previous) game”.
