Official Shadow of the Tomb Raider Artwork Revealed

Check Out Lara’s New Badass Look!

The official artwork for Shadow of the Tomb Raider has recently been revealed after Tomb Raider fans solved an online puzzle that was featured on the official Tomb Raider website. Check it out below!

A few details we noticed: Lara’s got a new knife (machete?) and looks like she’s going to be using a bow & arrow yet again. Her climbing axes are also back! We also see a Mayan pyramid in the background and Lara appears to be sitting in front of a solar eclipse.

In Mayan culture, solar eclipses (known as “chi’ ibal kin” or “to eat the sun”) were said to be caused by monsters (called “star demons”) eating the sun. When eclipses occurred, Mayans saw opportunities to commence special ceremonies.

We’ve speculated before about the game’s location being southern Mexico and this new image seems to further confirm our speculation. However, we probably won’t know for sure until April 27th which is when the game is going to get a full reveal event (which also includes a demo). The event is a part of this year’s Tribeca Games Festival.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what changes the game’s developer, Eidos Montreal, have made to the established Tomb Raider reboot formula. Though the games have been received well and have been commercial successes, just showing the exact same type of gameplay that has already been seen before would be kind of a letdown (especially since this is the final game in the current trilogy about Lara’s origins).

Here’s hoping they really surprise us on the 27th!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be available on September 14th on the PC, Xbox One and PS4.

So, what do you think of this artwork? How excited are you for this game? Talk about it in the comments section!
