You Can Listen to the Epic God of War Soundtrack Right Now

Spotify Users Can Listen to the God of War Soundtrack Today

Kratos makes his return in the hugely-anticipated PS4 exclusive in just a mere three days. While you wait, Sony has released the official God of War soundtrack early on Spotify for your listening pleasure.

Composed by the famed Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, 10 Cloverfield Lane), the God of War soundtrack contains 21 tracks from the game. Despite not having context for any of the songs, it’s still a great way to create excitement before diving into the game on Friday or if you’re someone that enjoys listening to epic instrumental music while studying.

“When Santa Monica Studio asked me to compose the score to the new God of War, I was awestruck, because I’m such a fan of the original games in the franchise,” said McBreary in an interview for PlayStation Blog. “As I collaborated with game director Cory Barlog, it became clear that this new game would require wholly new music that did not revisit the memorable scores of the original games, but instead ventured forth into new musical territory. I took my memories of that classic God of War soundtrack – the deep choirs, pounding drums, and shrieking brass – and reinvented them for a Norse age. I wrote new themes, and introduced to the music exotic instrumentation and languages from various Northern European folk traditions.”

Spotify appears to have the exclusive streaming rights for this week only. Come Friday, April 20th — the same day the game launches — the soundtrack will be available for streaming on other services. You can listen on Spotify by clicking here.

If you’re worried about spoilers, we can safely say that there isn’t really anything here that would ruin the experience for you but if you’re still unsure then we’d suggest going in completely blind.

Below is a snippet from our launch review from last week:

“God of War isn’t just a great God of War game, it’s the best so far. Sony Santa Monica has clearly put love into this latest title of the series and given both longtime fans and newcomers a monumental gaming achievement. Put your fears to rest – yes, Kratos is getting older, but even after all this time, he’s better than ever.”
