Oh Dang It’s Actually Retro
Normally I’d make some reference to the Nintendo Switch and its endless quest to absorb all indie games until the system itself starts to produce them organically, like a new strain of cold virus. Fox n Forests feels somewhat different, though. Rather than being an indie game dressed up to look Retro, this title is actually an expertly-crafted throwback. Just watching some gameplay made me feel like I traveled back in time. And it’s coming to the Switch!
For those of you not familiar (like I was until just recently) with the game, Fox n Forests is a SNES-style platformer with a look and sound ripped straight from the 16-bit era. You play a running and gunning fox named Rick who has the power to change the seasons. This ability lets you navigate otherwise impossible regions by creating platforms or destroying obstacles. Neat!
Each stage has two seasons you can shift between. Rick can earn a variety of abilities through his exploits, including new weapons tied to that badass magic crossbow of his. Fox n Forests is set for release May 17th on the Nintendo Switch. Also, it’s coming out for Xbox One, PS4 and the PC. Check out some of the gameplay below!
