Top-Secret 2K Games Studio Reportedly Working on Next BioShock

After Years of Silence, Reports of a New BioShock Have Surfaced

Many will argue that the BioShock series is a masterpiece and a testament to the innovation that can be done with first-person shooters. Therefore, it’s no surprise that many fans may throw their heads against the wall at the mere whisper of a sequel. Well, there definitely seems to be something in the works.

2K celebrates 10 years

Kotaku’s most active reporter, probably the most active in the games industry, Jason Schrier, tweeted today that a new BioShock is in development. Apparently, the project is being manned by a top-secret studio run by 2K Games. Originally, the report came from his Kotaku longform story: “How the Makers of Mafia III Lost Their Way.” While investigating Hangar 13 and Mafia III’s development hell, as well as the post-launch fallout, Schrier caught wind of another 2K studio working on BioShock. Since Schrier has proven very credible in the past, we have reason to believe a fourth installment is indeed in the works. However, since nothing is confirmed until it’s officially confirmed, you’re welcome to take the report with a grain of salt.

“Many of the people who helped make Mafia III are now gone, including the game’s art director, technical art director, senior producers, design director, many design leads, and a number of other key staff,” Schrier reported. “Some left voluntarily; others were let go or asked to move. Some went to other game companies; others moved to the top-secret studio next door to work on an unannounced new BioShock game.”

It seems the studio behind the next BioShock sits right next to Hangar 13, and even the members of Hangar 13 were in the dark concerning the project. When they finally did learn about the true IP, as you can imagine, employees who were being shifted were hoping the exodus would be as simple as a walk to the next building.

“In the midst of all this confusion, some employees of Hangar 13 couldn’t help but look with envy at their neighbors,” Schrier went on. “Next door, a small group of people were working on a project code-named Parkside, quietly recruiting from across the video game industry for a game so secret, they wouldn’t even tell their colleagues at Hangar 13 about it. Word got out, though, that it was in fact a new game in one of the most interesting shooter franchises of the past decade: BioShock.”

Nothing is known about the BioShock game yet, but stay tuned for updates. Since there’s plenty of room for speculation, feel free to comment your thoughts on the next game’s setting. Were you a fan of the series? Let us know.
