Yakuza Kiwami 2 Coming to the West in August

The Current Gen Remake of Yakuza 2 Is Coming This Summer!

Yakuza Kiwami 2, the current gen remake of Yakuza 2, has a release date in the West: August 28th! This was announced during an official Sega stream that was held on Saturday. The official Yakuza Twitter account also tweeted the news soon afterwards. Check out the announcement trailer below!

In Yakuza Kiwami 2, players will play as Kazuma Kiryu, an ex-yakuza who becomes embroiled in an all-out gang war between rival yakuza factions, the Omi Alliance and the Tojo Clan, after a top Tojo Clan boss is murdered by a hitman aligned with the Omi Alliance.

Players will also take control of Goro Majima and will get to find out how he went on to start his construction company, Majima Construction.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is running on the same engine that Yakuza 6: The Song of Life runs on which means that players will be able to do things such as dynamically enter & run away from fights, enter & exit buildings without loading screens and fling around their enemies with the engine’s ragdoll physics.

We reviewed the previous Kiwami remake, Yakuza Kiwami, last summer and gave it a score of 88 out of 100. Our reviewer, Patrick Anderson, praised the game for its narrative, side quests and large open world. However, he also criticized it for lacking in some areas when compared to its prequel, Yakuza 0.

“But even if it can’t quite measure up to Yakuza 0’s near-perfection, Yakuza Kiwami is still a thoroughly enjoyable experience for series veterans and newcomers alike,” Anderson wrote.

Here’s hoping that this next remake will blow us all away!

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is scheduled to come out on August 28th and its a PS4 exclusive.
