Sony Removes Free Yakuza 6 from PlayStation Store

Whoops, Yakuza 6 Was Released for Free

Sega accidentally uploaded the full Yakuza 6 game to the North American PlayStation Store instead of the demo. This means that nearly everyone who downloaded the demo received a full copy of the game with no restrictions. Now, Sony has revoked the license for the demo and the game on all PlayStation 4s.

In addition to the license, the game has been removed from the library. No word yet on when the actual demo for the North American PlayStation Store will be released, but we’re guessing a few days.

For those that have already played through some of the game, Sega confirmed that you will be able to carry over your data to the full game if you purchase it. They also assured that there will be no penalties for downloading and playing the game.

“Just to reassure you that we are working with Sony to make sure that there are no account penalties if you downloaded the demo,” they said. “Still no date for the demo going back up but it is our top priority!

Here’s the game’s official excerpt:

“The Dragon of Dojima will find out exactly how much people are willing to sacrifice for family – be those ties through blood or bond – when Yakuza 6: The Song of Life releases in the West.”

“The game is coming to consoles only on PlayStation 4, and thanks to the new “Dragon Engine,” is the most advanced Yakuza title to date.”

“From the unparalleled realism of the new setting of Onomichi, a beautiful, sleepy port town in Hiroshima Prefecture, to the latest evolution of Kamurocho, the biggest red light district in Tokyo, Yakuza 6 is the ultimate iteration of the series’ blend of gritty crime story, hyper-explosive combat, and all the vices and distractions those locales have to offer.”

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is set for release on April 17 for the PlayStation 4.
