Release Date for the next Tomb Raider Game May Have Leaked [Update]

Update: the first teaser for Shadow of the Tomb Raider has leaked online in front of a film premiere. You can find it at the bottom of the original story.

Official Website Announcement Incoming

The next game to tell the origin of Lara Croft, Shadow of The Tomb Raider, may have had its release date leaked. Reportedly, the release date was leaked via the official website’s source code that displays multiple dates.

As discovered by GameSpot, the Tomb Raider website source code shows a release date of September 14, 2018. Furthermore, it reads, “Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the climactic finale of Lara’s origin story.” What’s more interesting about the source code listing is that Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC are all listed. It thus seems plausible that, unlike the previous installment, the next game shall release on all platforms simultaneously. Rise of the Tomb Raider arrived exclusively on the Xbox One for a full year before hitting the PlayStation 4 in 2017.

At the time of this writing, the website displayed a single date for the public eye. That date is March 15, 2018. Apparently, the source code included yet another date on top of this one. That date is April 27, 2018. Therefore, we can speculate that the official reveal of Shadow of the Tomb Raider will arrive Tomorrow. Later on, we may see another announcement on April 27. And, finally, we may receive our release date of September 14, 2018.

Back in December, Square Enix sent a message to fans affirming that a new Tomb Raider game was in the works. In that message, they stated game would kick off with a “major event” in 2018. It looks like that event is at hand. Come tomorrow, we should finally learn which studio is working on the game and what it looks like. Stay tuned. Just as well, stay tuned for our look at the Tomb Raider film, which will arrive later today.
