Shadow of the Tomb Raider Might Be Set in Mexico

A Short Teaser for the Upcoming Game Is Reportedly Being Shown in Theaters

A teaser for the next Tomb Raider game is already being shown in theaters, according to this thread on ResetEra. One of the forum users has posted screenshots from the teaser in the thread. Here’s one of those screenshots below!

It appears that Lara Croft, the series protagonist, is standing in front of several Mayan pyramids and, if the teaser is anything to go by, she’s going to be exploring some jungle environments. The teaser also further confirms that the next game is coming out on September 14th.

*Spoilers for Rise of the Tomb Raider*

It makes sense that the next game is going to be set in Mexico since the ending of the previous game, Rise of the Tomb Raider, hinted that Lara was heading to Yucatan (which is in southern Mexico). See the screenshot from the game’s ending below.

Of course, it is currently unknown if Shadow of the Tomb Raider is only going to be set in Yucatan. The previous game took place in both Syria (though only for a tutorial level) and a mountainous region in Siberia so that could mean that this upcoming game could take place in areas that are outside of Yucatan or even Mexico.

Another detail from the Rise of the Tomb Raider ending: after Ana, the girlfriend of Lara’s deceased father, gets shot by a sniper, the shooter asks someone on a radio if they should shoot Lara next. A voice from the radio answers, “No. Not yet.” There’s also that mysterious man wearing sunglasses in the upper left corner of the above screenshot. His identity is currently unknown though he could possibly be an antagonist in the next game.

It should also be noted that Lara is most likely going to be continuing her fight against Trinity (the religious extremist organization introduced in the second game) in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is (until possibly tomorrow) unofficially scheduled to come out on September 14th.
