A Live-Action Street Fighter TV Series Is in the Works

From Game to Web to TV, Capcom Announces a Street Fighter Adaptation

Today, Capcom announced their deal with Canadia production company Entertainment One to deliver a live-action television series based on the critically-acclaimed fighting game franchise, Street Fighter.

According to Deadline, production will involve the same group of individuals who delivered the live-action web series, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist – Joey Ansah, Jacqueline Quella, and Mark Wooding have been commissioned as executive producers. Produced for Machinima, the Street Fighter web series was written and directed by Ansah back in 2014. A full 12 episodes later, it garnered 16-million views in a relatively short time. The same minds behind that project will dip their hands into a bigger production revolving around the same source material.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with Joey, Jacqueline and Mark, who are already so deeply connected to this brand, to bring this adored story to television audiences everywhere,” said Mark Gordon, eOne’s president and chief content officer for film, television and digital.

In producing the new television series, Gordon says the team will strive for a “faithful” representation of the characters and world. As many fans will attest, fan-made projects are the most faithful when it comes to adapting video game source material. It provides a strong contrast to the world of film, which witnesses an entirely different perspective. And this may be why eOne chose a web-oriented team for the new medium.

“After a long search, guided by the team behind Assassin’s Fist, we are delighted to be partnering with a company with the outstanding TV experience of Mark Gordon and eOne,” said Yoshinori Ono, Street Fighter executive producer. “They have the credentials to help us launch a faithful adaptation of Street Fighter as a major TV series.”
