BAFTA Game Awards Announces the Nominations for Best Game

It Also Announced Its Nominations for Other Categories

The BAFTA Game Awards announced its nominations for Best Game and other categories on Thursday. This year’s nominees for Best Game are: Assassin’s Creed Origins, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and What Remains of Edith Finch.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice leads all nominees with nine nominations in categories that not only include Best Game but also Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, British Game, Game Beyond Entertainment, Game Innovation, Music, Narrative and Performer.

The nominees for Debut Game include: Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Night in the Woods, The Sexy Brutale, Slime Rancher and Gorogoa.

There were also nominations for the Performer category: Abubakar Salim as Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins, Ashly Burch as Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn, Claudia Black & Laura Bailey as Chloe Frazer & Nadine Ross, respectively, in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Melina Juergens as Senua in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

For Game Design, the nominees are: Assassin’s Creed Origins, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Horizon Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and What Remains of Edith Finch.

This year’s BAFTA Fellowship will go to Tim Schafer, the legendary game developer and the mind behind classics such as Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. Schafer said that he was “surprised, humbled, and honored” to be receiving the Fellowship at the BAFTA Game Awards.

“BAFTA’s long-standing support of video games and championing of creativity and strong storytelling in that medium, have had an extremely positive impact and I’m very grateful to be recognized by them with this Fellowship,” said Schafer.

The BAFTA Game Awards will be held next month on April 12th.
