Red Dead Redemption 2 Dev Is “Confident” About New Release Date
From talks about the newly announced release date being pushed back further, to leaks about a battle royale mode, it’s no secret that the rumor mill has run rampant about one of the most highly anticipated titles of the year: Red Dead Redemption 2. During Take-Two’s quarterly investor conference call CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed both of these rumors.
Last week Rockstar confirmed the release date for Red Dead Redemption 2 was slated for October 26th of this year. It was originally thought that it would release sometime this Spring. Rockstar stated the reason for this was because they felt the game needed to be polished more in order to reach the “apex of effort and perfection.” Despite this announcement, many still had their doubts. According to Zelnick, the new release date “is set” and he is confident on hitting that release date. He also stated that they are “very excited” about the release during the Holiday season.
Strauss Zelnick also talked about the rumors surrounding an in-game battle royale mode. At least, he kind of addressed it. When discussing the overall game mechanics, he mentioned that this was ultimately a decision for Rockstar Games to make. He did however state that for such a fundamental change on how the game operates, Take Two would be aware of it and right now they find the niche “derivative.” He added, “Our goal is to be as innovative as possible. Titles, even really good titles that are derivative never seem to do as well as innovations that are unexpected. That said, of course we play in the world and are informed by what’s going on and look to bringing consumers what they want.”
Interestingly, it doesn’t exactly definitely answer the rumors one way or another. Maybe they have some sort of game mode up their sleeves. We’ll just have to wait and see.
