Battle of the Bands Goes Literal in Shining Resonance Refrain

Shining Resonance Hits the West This Summer

Shining Resonance Refrain, the remastered JRPG released for the PS3 in Japan, is coming to the west. Find it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch wholly remastered this Summer. This time around, the game is packed with better visuals and new features. But when we get right down to it, the game offers western players the chance to experience a unique campaign like few other RPGs.

Shining Resonance now comes with an “Original Mode” and a “Refrain Mode”  that unlocks  Imperial Princess Excella and Dragonslayer Jinas as party members. Choose the former if you wish to avoid spoilers. But, you want to know what is going on in this story. You lead a band of heroes known as Dragoneers; they wield weapons that double as musical instruments, and it makes for an originally exciting take on combat. As the story goes:

“Yuma has the soul of the Shining Dragon within him, transforming into the ancient beast by unleashing the power conducted through his sword. Dragons, long thought to be extinct, make Yuma a target for the Empire. To use him against the kingdom of Astoria, The Empire captures Yuma. Sonia, princess of Astoria, launches a rescue mission with the help of the Dragoneers. Hearing about the plight of Astoria and their fight to save their land, Yuma decides to aid them. Typically timid, will he find the courage to realize the strength he has within him?”

Accompanying this Fantasy story is a new take on real-time combat. You lead your own party of Dragoneers, each with their own set of abilities and weapons called Armonics. Sounds amazing, right? It gets even better; the battle system lets characters combine their attacks into a performance that accumulates BPM (Battle Performance Mana). You then use that BPM to bestow special effects on your party. It’s battle of the bands in the most literal sense, and it’s achievable through Shining Resonance’s B.A.N.D. system.

Shining Resonance Refrain will be available for $49.99 USD / $64.99 CAD. Anyone who purchases the launch version for Nintendo Switch, PS4, or Xbox One, will receive the game in a collectible metal slipcase, and it will look beautiful. Find out more at shiningresonance.com.

Happy gaming.
