Phil Spencer Says Microsoft Hears Its Fans and Is Investing More in Games

Phil Spencer Says He’s Aware That Microsoft Needs to Invest More in Games

It’s been widely noticed and criticized by critics and fans alike that the Xbox One has a significant lack of exclusive titles, especially in comparison to other platforms like the PlayStation 4. In a recent interview, Phil Spencer says that he’s not only aware of the problem, but that Microsoft is continually trying to fix it!

In fact, Microsoft is already changing up their organization with the intention of investing more in first-party content. They have just promoted Matt Booty, previously the head of Minecraft, to the Vice President of Microsoft and the new head of games. Booty will therefore carry out the game plan to push new content forward.

In a recent interview with Gamesbeat, Phil Spencer stated that they are aware of the need to invest in more first-party content. “I’m not deaf to the meme out there regarding our content and our need to invest more. Definitely, we are at a point where we’re investing more and we’ll continue to do that. When I look at Matt and his responsibility with his team, it’s about charting our future in first-party content. I feel like with each one of the leaders we have, there’s an existing plan, and I feel good about that plan, but we know that the plan all-up for studios is expanding. Having Matt’s leadership there in navigating the expansion, what bets we make, the teams we bet on, the teams we create, is going to be critical.”

As Microsoft invests more in first-content content and begins really listening to the fans, Booty will ensure that the best possible games are the ones moving forward. Spencer discussed this, “As we expand, having a leader in place so new investments can be driven and land in the strategy we have is going to be critical for me. That’s really where I look at Matt’s focus: both the existing franchises, and equally, if not a little more, thinking about our future content and how that growth happens in a thoughtful way, a way that delivers for our fans.”

It definitely seems like Matt Booty will have a lot on his plate as the new head of games, especially as he helps Microsoft land awesome exclusives. With Microsoft focusing on improving the leadership in the games department, it will be interesting to see whether this move will pay off in the long run. Hopefully, they can deliver a bunch of new and exciting titles that rival Sony’s lineup of games to come this year!
