Monster Hunter World Is Not Coming to Nintendo Switch: Xbox One and PS4 Remain Focus

No Plans for Monster Hunter World on Switch

Monster Hunter World is the upcoming game in the Monster Hunter franchise that will be representing the fifth generation in the series. Given that the previous generation’s games were Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations on the 3DS back in 2015 and 2016, we figured it would be a given the game would release on the Nintendo Switch. With a game that we predict will be amazing, we figured an eventual Switch release would only be a matter of time. Well, that might not be the case, at all.

In a recent interview, directors Kaname Fujioka and Yuya Tokuda talked about a possible Nintendo Switch release, mentioning that the game is not coming to Nintendo’s new console due to the fact that Monster Hunter World has been in development for 4 years and there was no news regarding the Switch. Additionally, the team considered which hardware would be the best fit for the game, eventually deciding to release it on PS4 and Xbox One, as far as consoles are concerned.

They reported the following:

“We don’t have any plans for the Switch at the moment. Part of the reason is that the title has been in development for almost 4 years. At the time we had to commit to our hardware choices, we decided on using the most powerful current generation consoles available at the time, which was PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So [the decision was made] before the Switch was even announced or on sale.

It’s also because for every title we decide what the best fit for hardware is for the concept. We don’t just look at everything. It’s more like ‘if we want to achieve this kind of game concept, where’s the best place to achieve that?’ and for this title the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were the best fit for us.”

Monster Hunter World launches on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version will be released later this year.

What do you think? Is this soul-crushing news for you?
