Rockstar Games Says GTA Online Had the Highest Player Count Ever in December 2017
Almost 4 and half years later, Grand Theft Auto V is still kicking ass and taking names! And it’s no wonder, with the huge success of the online portion of the game, GTA Online. Just last month in fact, Rockstar Games ended 2017 with a bang, as GTA online reached the highest player count ever.
Rockstar revealed in a recent blog post that not only was 2017 the biggest year for GTA Online, but that December had more players in-game than at any other point since launch. Though no figures were provided, it’s still quite the achievement, especially considering the popularity it’s had since the beginning.
Whether you’re a fan of Grand Theft Auto or not, there’s no denying that GTA Online has been a major cash cow for Rockstar Games since its release in September 2013. While most online servers for games fizzle out after a few years, GTA Online remains fresh with frequent free updates, including the new Doomsday Heist and Red Dead Redemption revolver.
Maybe the surge in player count has something to do with the latest heist, or maybe a bunch of new people picked GTA V up during the holiday season, whatever the reason, Rockstar Games should definitely celebrate! It will be interesting to see if the online mode for Red Dead Redemption 2 will see this same kind of success when the game is released later this year.
