Expect A Ton Of Arcade Archives Titles In 2018

Whispers From Famitsu Suggest Hamster Wants To Release 800 Of Them In Total

According to a post on Japanese Nintendo, The CEO of Hamster is hoping to introduce a lot more games to the Arcade Archives lineup currently on all the major consoles. Like, 750 more, if this post is to be believed.

Arcade Archives Neo Geo

That number seems too big to be real. What’s left to bring into the modern console age, after all the hits? Your Kings of Fighters, your Metal Slugs, these don’t number more than twenty in total. Then there’s the waves of fighting games that are like KoF, but subtly different. Then there’s puzzle games, vertical shooters and arcade platformers. Even with every Neo Geo and Neo Geo-adjacent title out there, Hamster is still falling a bit short of that 800-title brass ring.

Of course, even if they only manage half of that final number, that’s still an amazing library of games to get into the hands of a whole new generation. If they all get onto the Switch, that will turn that system into a comprehensive portable arcade machine! Sadly, we’ll have to wait a bit longer before we’re able to confirm this story. The Famitsu article which contains this claim from Hamster CEO Satoshi Hamada won’t be released until January of 2018. Hopefully by then we’ll also get a more detailed release calendar for this enormous hypothetical stable of arcade classics.
