Elite: Dangerous Takes Advantage of the Xbox One X Hardware; Runs in Native 4K

Elite: Dangerous Runs in Native 4K on the Xbox One X

The Xbox One X launches tomorrow and there have been a lot of enhanced titles confirmed recently. Now, Elite: Dangerous joins the list, and will be able to run in native 4K on the new console from Microsoft.

Elite: Dangerous

Michael Gapper, the PR and Communications Manager of Frontier Developments, has confirmed that their game, Elite: Dangerous, has joined the list of enhanced titles like Assassin’s Creed Origins and Call of Duty: WWII. He shared some details about these enhancements below:

“So, we’ve have added two new options for Xbox One X: 1) Performance/Quality and 1080p/4K. We’re letting players tailor their own experience. 2) Elite: Dangerous runs in native 4K @ 3840×2160 on Xbox One X if set to 4K mode. All I can say specifically regarding framerate is that Xbox One X owners will see greatly increased performance over a standard Xbox One whether they play at 1080p or 4K. We try to always give players the best possible framerate and adapt it to the content in the scene.”

Gamers will get to choose how they want to take advantage of the power provided to them through the Xbox One X. They can choose between the “Performance” and “Quality” modes, as well as 1080p and 4K. Of course, if you decide to play on Performance mode, you will play on 1080p and if you are concerned with how the game looks, you would pick Quality mode and play in 4K resolution. Obviously, how you decide to play affects the framerate of the game.

In addition to these details, Gapper also stated that this update, as well as the full list of details, will be live for the official launch of the Xbox One X tomorrow. At least that’s what they’re aiming for he says. If you aren’t familiar with Elite: Dangerous, you can check out what we thought of it here.

This announcement comes just a month after the UK developer outlined a roadmap of Elite: Dangerous. This roadmap shows off new content the game will be receiving in the future. This includes a Planetary Tech and Terrain rework, the addition of a clan system called Squadrons and a bunch of other improvements. On top of all of this new content, Frontier has also promised a bunch of new ships, an extension of the Thargoids story and new toold and activities to keep everyone busy.
