Users Report Dead Xbox One X Consoles on Launch Day

There Was No Warning

Console launches. What are they if not marred by a few duds? Turns out the Xbox One X launch is no exception since several users are reporting nonfunctional hardware.

Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition

Several internet forums are reporting the same problem. As spotted Reddit and ResetEra, a number of Xbox One X users are facing issues with Microsoft’s new hardware. While in the middle of the game, players report their consoles randomly shutting off. Any attempt to turn them back on has been met with failure. In diagnosing the issues, users swapped cords from the X to use on the S to find that the latter worked fine. Which confirmed that the 4K console had, indeed, died.

Furthermore, it looks like the particular issue is prevalent with the Xbox One X Scorpio Edition. A bummer, considering these are the versions that are harder to replace. Some Reddit members said they were able to get replacements at their brick and mortar retailers, but others might not be so lucky.

Obviously, if you’re faced with the same issue, call your retailer immediately. That or call Microsoft. Every Xbox One X will have a warranty. If you want to replace a Project Scorpio Edition, one bet is to get a refund and purchase another one online. After that, just hope you don’t run into the same issue. We’re still unsure if the dead console is limited to a minority or whether or not it is limited to Scorpio.

We’ll be sure to bring any updates from Microsoft
