Crazy Indie Shoot Em’ Up Pawarumi Hitting Early Access Next Week

Color-Match Your Way to Total Annihilation

Love shoot ’em ups? Sick of Bullet-Hell games? Then you’re somehow in luck! PAWARUMI is the latest title from French developer Manufacture 43, set to come out on Steam Early Access next week. The game eschews the usual Bullet-Hell trappings in favor of a color-based system and a distinct Dreamcast-era aesthetic.

The hook here is not only that delightful Trinity system, but the futuristic Atzec setting. Does it make any sense? Well, not exactly. But a good shoot ’em up doesn’t need a setting that makes any sense, it just has to look super cool. And it does! Between the lasers, the lights and the detailed stonework, PAWARUMI captures that trademark look down to a tee.

Manufacture 43 is keeping the game in an early access phase until sometime around January of 2018. This will leave the developers plenty of time to tweak the game’s numerous systems before the final release. You can check out the trailer below for a somewhat better idea of how the Trinity system works. Allegedly it’s a variation of the usual rock-paper-scissors system? Where your shields, super moves and damage output are all represented by different points of this triangle? Well, I’m sufficiently intrigued. PAWARUMI enters its Steam Early Access phase on October 23rd.
