Guardians of Arcadia Is a Nostalgic JRPG Coming to Xbox One and Steam

Guardians of Arcadia Episode 1 Coming This Year

A new JRPG is heading to Xbox One and Steam called Guardians of Arcadia that looks to harken back to the classics of the 90’s. It’s developed by an indie studio known as FABULA EPICA and will be their debut game.

On its Steam page, it is called “Guardians of Arcadia – Episode 1” which strongly implies of an episodic release structure like the Telltale games. It is scheduled for release later this year, but it’s unknown if that relates to both platforms or just the Steam release.

Below is the official description of the game:

A truly nostalgic JRPG experience, Guardians of Arcadia® tells the story of General Nero of Baikal, whose highly advanced weapons have been terrorizing kingdoms around the world. With their homeland destroyed, Hikaru, his sister Aki, and a group of unlikely characters embark on a journey to end the evil general’s campaign of terror.

As they find themselves drawn into General Nero’s increasingly sinister plot, Hikaru and Aki realise they have an opportunity not simply to face their destiny, but to shape it.

Guardians of Arcadia® harks back to classic RPGs of the 1990s, with chibi character design, random battles, a strategic turn-based combat system, and a fully 3D explorable world.

Guardians of Arcadia main screen 1280x

The RPG genre is dire on the Xbox One so it’s nice to see a few of them pop up now and again. While Guardians of Arcadia is no Final Fantasy XIV or Persona 5, it may still have what it takes to scratch that JRPG itch.
