How a Clan of Deaf Gamers Nailed Destiny 2’s Leviathan Raid

In Case You Needed a Benchmark for Teamwork

Another Destiny 2 raid was completed recently; nothing new. But what was so special about this latest raid, in particular, was the clever coordination. PvE raid Leviathan was beaten by a group solely comprised of deaf players. How did that do it? you ask. Here it is.

News of the raid came directly from Destiny 2’s subreddit. There, the clan of deaf gamers beautifully named DESTINYERRORALWAYSFAMOUS, or DEAF for short, explained their methods for braving the gauntlet and defeating final boss Caelus. On the Xbox One, they utilized a video messaging app known as Glide. With that app, they developed their own call-and-response techniques specifically catered to the raid.

Here’s what clan admin Ic3bear76 had to say on Reddit:

“We have an app called Glide, it’s like video chats. It has a keyboard so we just type to call out the symbols. S for Sun, D for Dog, C for Cup, A for Axe.
So three people just type to call out. I’ll know which to punch the bubble.

“Gauntlet and dogs are actually easier for us really. Gauntlet, for who is the runner, all he has to do is (top, middle, and bottom). If top, just jump high, middle, use dance or wave emotes, and bottom, just crouch.
Dogs, for two guys who do with lasers and will have to find flowers then just use wave emotes. I will see where the guy who waves is, then I’ll get over there. If flowers are in the middle area, just dance.”

Destiny 2 recently took the 2017 crown for most sold units, according to the NPD. Now that it’s arrived for PC, the game may just remain on top. Certainly, it helps that it’s utilizing none other than Blizzard’s Battle.net. On console, however, the game seems to be undergoing a new player shortage. Read about it in our latest article by Alexander Thomas: “Guardians Wanted.”
